About the Event

There’s a little bit of magic and a whole lot of love in the funky rock band Oh He Dead. Founded in 2014 by C.J. Johnson and Andy Valenti, the now five-piece group includes lead guitarist Alex Salser, John Daise-on-the-bass (say it out loud), and Adam Ashforth on drums. The 2020 recipients of Washington City Paper’s “Best of DC,” mix in healthy doses of classic R&B, funk, and folk. The “infectious and soulful sound” (WaPo) of Oh He Dead’s “…infectiously groovy tunes” (NPR) has captured the hearts of D.C. residents, and the feeling is mutual.

CHEAKAITY

Cheakaity: Artist/ Producer-Writer With a voice like “a fine bottle of merlot”, D.C Born, P.G. County raised artist/producer Cheakaity (Cha-Keh-taye) is a vessel of pure soul. Born into his father’s church, Cheakaity discovered his love for music at a very young age after hearing West African gospel music played by the worship team. He began playing the drums by the age of 4, singing by age 8, playing keyboard by age 12, and producing beats at age 16. Now 30, his sound is rooted in gospel, blues & neo-soul. Cheakaity is also heavily influenced by rock music such as Radiohead, and Coldplay, and cites Kanye West and Pharrell Williams as his “musical parents“. Cheakaity has collaborated with such acts as Goldlink, Ciscero, April George of April + Vista, Kelow LaTesha, Foggieraw and others. His debut album “Grown Man” has received local acclaim as well as a few nods from the music industry’s elite.
