DRINK UP!: Interview with Caboose Brewing | Beer & Bluegrass on Friday January Twelfth

As you might have gathered, we dig beer. With 16 taps in our taproom and the venue, many of which local breweries, tasty suds is a priority for everyone at Union Stage. To prove our love, we welcomed our good friends—and brewers of our signature beers—Caboose Brewing to take over the space tomorrow night for BLUEGRASS & BEER. To celebrate this partnership, we asked Caboose a few questions about their history and involvement. Check it out below, and see you on Friday!

UNION STAGE: What is the history of Caboose Brewing Company? Where are you located? How are you involved in your community?

CABOOSE BREWING: Caboose Brewing Company was formed in October 2013 and opened in May 2015 in Vienna, Virginia by two local families, the McLaughlins and the Greers. The name “Caboose” is a nod to the W&OD railroad line, which has since been repurposed as the premier bike and trail path in the area. The trail runs along the back of our building. Our Head Brewer, Justin Weems, has been with us since the very beginning, he was promoted in November of 2017. Our Executive Chef, James Marroquin, was previously the Executive Chef at Sonoma Restaurant & Wine Bar and at Stanton & Greene on Capitol Hill. Our food is locally sourced, humanely raised, thoughtfully prepared, and served in a community setting. Caboose is the first and only brewery operating in Vienna, and the closest brewery located along the W&OD trail.

Caboose is very community oriented and believes that good beer and food goes hand in hand with a healthy lifestyle. Because of our close proximity to the trail it makes it very easy for us to accomplish this! We currently have a run club (Trails and Ales) on Monday evenings, Yoga on Wednesday mornings, and Dad’s Run This Town on Wednesday evenings. We love to get involved in local events such as Vienna Oktoberfest and support local organizations as well.

US: What beers will you have on hand at the Beer & Bluegrass event? What can people expect?

CB: Wasser Bohemian Pilsner 4.9% ABV – Bohemian Pilsner, Light Bodied, Effervescent, Floral Notes, Extremely Crisp Clean Finish

Citra Session IPA 5.1% ABV – American Session Pale Ale, Grapefruit & Orange Bouquet, Light, Refreshing, Easy Drinking

US: Does Caboose have a history of working with musicians? What kind of music pairs best with your beer?

CB: We have not had a history of working with musicians, but we are huge fans of all genres!

US: Why did you choose to work with Union Stage?

CB: We chose to work with Union Stage because their sister company Jammin’ Java are our amazing Vienna neighbors. We love being able to support them in their new endeavor and co-branding with them at their new spot!
