The Mixxstress
The Mixxstress is a multi hyphenate entertainer who has honed a distinctive sound that showcases a boundary breaking take on the mainstream. As an established vocalist/songwriter/DJ/MC/producer; her bold and fearless personal style further conveys her artistry.

A relationship with art has been lifelong. Initially attracted to a career in fashion and visual arts, music was an influence that weaved in and out of her life. She attended Washington, DC area public schools and there participated in county to state ensembles. Her interest in music was solidified at the age of 16 at an infamous local battle of bands which garnered her group the competition’s coveted top prize. With this success, she went on to perform with several area bands, eventually becoming lead vocalist of Marlee in the Mixx (MITM) which she birthed in 2012. As front-woman of MITM, she established herself as a formidable force on the DC music and entertainment scene.

Featured performances at hundreds of venues across the US, including Afropunk’s Battle of the Bands, SOB’s in New York City and Hollywood’s legendary Whisky a Go Go, as well as international headliners at the Essence of Seoul festival in Seoul, South Korea. Collectively Marlee In The Mixx digitally released three highly acclaimed projects; the “10,000 Hours” EP, “The Mixxtape” and the mini EP “Curious on a 70’s Night”. With two releases prior to the band’s debut which she solely curated; the “Orange Line” LP and Marlee’s Modern Life.

In late 2017, Marlee launched her next solo phase as The Mixxstress with the track “SHIFT.” When it comes to the new sound; she regards it as universal, transcending labels to unify audiences in an authentic way. Her influences range across the spectrum; stemming from rap/soul to rock, pop, funk, and electronic genres. Acts like Lady Gaga, N.E.R.D., Paramore, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Little Dragon are just a few that are credited for her wide range of inspirations. She doesn’t see these distinct categories as divergent entities. Rather, she envisions them as art forms that have commingled to give birth to a multifaceted artist. With her current projects culminating in 2019, The Mixxstress asserts herself as a layered artist with a singular voice on the contemporary music scene.
